Deepavali or Diwali is one of the largest and most important holiday of the year for Hindus in India, the Caribbean and around the world. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (or deepa) that Hindus light outside their homes and all around during the observance of the festival.

Gewa Gurcharan, Branch Banking Officer, Ridgewood Savings Bank; Juliet Rampersaud, Owner, Julie’s Fashion; Bharathi Iyer, Director Membership, Bronx YMCA and Police Officer Kaminie Jeeuth, NYPD 46th Precinct were the 2016 Honorees during the Festival of Lights.

The event included Presentation of Colors by the Star of the Sea – Sea Cadet Corps followed by the National Anthem by singer and songwriter Shayla Hernandez, Bollywood dance performances, singing, and lighting of diyas.
