Actor Leonardo DiCaprio calls on New York to divest from fossil fuels
Day before New Yorkers take action, as global commitments surpass $5 trillion in assets, DiCaprio urges New York to divest

New York, NY — Just one day before dozens of New Yorkers will take action at the New York City pension fund meeting calling for full divestment from fossil fuels, actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio added his voice, calling on New York to step into its leadership and divest from fossil fuels. This comes as a report reveals the global fossil fuel divestment movement has doubled in size in the last year.

“Along with our communities, Leonardo DiCaprio recognizes the unique responsibility New York has to divest from climate destruction and reinvest in a sustainable economy that works for New Yorkers,” said Beta Coronel, 350.org Reinvestment Coordinator. “In the face of the anti-climate Trump administration, with climate change an immediate threat, we need our local and state officials to step up and prioritize people and planet. New York has often been a beacon of progressive action; that’s why we’re coming together to call on Comptroller Scott Stringer and pension trustees stand with us on the right side of history.”
