Two Injured as SUV Slams into Pizza Shop in Spuyten Duyvil

Officials say two people suffered minor injuries after an out-of-control vehicle slammed into the store- front of a pizza shop in Spuyten Duyvil.

Police, fire department and paramedic crews were called to the Famous Pizza Express, located at 570 Kappock Street at Netherland Avenue, at 3:05 p.m. on Monday, January 2.

Witnesses reported a black taxi attempting to beat a red light, forced the unidentified driver of the SUV to swerve to avoid a head-on collision, slamming into the building.
Officials say the driver and his four passengers as well as several workers inside the pizza shop were briefly trapped by debris, before being removed by firefighter’s.
Miraculously no serious injuries were reported. Officials say two workers suffered minor injuries during their removal and were treated by paramedics at the scene.

The owner of Famous Pizza Express said he believed it would take several months to repair the extensive damage to the shop.

Minor damage was reported in the adjacent store, workers from A Touch of Sun Hair and Spa apparently closed shortly after the crash.

An official at the NYPD stated no charges were filed, but the investigation into the cause of the crash remains on-going.
