An off-duty NYPD Housing Bureau police officer apparently taken his own life at his home, opposite the Jerome Park Reservoir in the Jerome Park section of the borough.
A small army of police were called to the “Tideway,” located at 3363 Sedgwick Avenue at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 22.

Police had briefly shutdown Sedgwick Avenue, where an ambulance was prepared to rush the still-unidentified officer to St. Barnabas Hospital with a police escort, when paramedics declared the officer dead at the scene.

Officials reported that the officer, a sergeant with the Public Service Area 7 which patrols housing complexes in the South Bronx, was discovered by his girlfriend when she returned home.
Detectives continue to investigate, but at this time officials have classified the case as a suicide.

One police source stated that the officer, who joined the NYPD in 2010, likely died from a single, self-inflicted gun shot wound.
