An aspiring model was shot dead after a dispute inside the stairwell at the Forest Houses in the Morrisania section of the borough.

Police say Aaliyah Alder, 21, of Mott Haven, was discovered by officers on the eighth-floor staircase of 965 Tinton Avenue at 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 27.
Officials say she died at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The following day police charged Davaughn Johnson, 22, a resident of the building and ex-boyfriend of one of Alder’s friends.

Johnson was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
Ms. Adler was a participant with the S.O.S. Morrisania violence prevention team in the Morrisania community. On Facebook, Bronxites were asked to keep Ms. Adler and SOS Morrisania in light and in prayers.
The victim was one of our participants, this is close to home, team members are having a difficult time. We continue to push forward to creating a community where peace is a lifestyle and not just a moment.
SOS Morrisania alongside the family and friends of Aaliyah held a candlelight vigil on Wednesday night as a response to the senseless act of gun violence that took the life of Ms. Adler.
