Hawk Sightings on the Rise
by David Greene
Sightings of Red-tailed Hawks along Webster Avenue in Claremont Village or near the DeWitt Clinton High School along Mosholu Parkway have been regular occurrences for years however, in the last several weeks hawks have been spotted on the campus of Bronx Community College in University Heights and in Pelham Bay. Hawks had disappeared for years before returning to nest atop a building on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue in 1990, and have since expanded into the five boroughs. Hawks regularly migrate south for the winter and are once again returning to breed in the spring.
