ANHEUSER-BUSCH CELEBRATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY BY HOSTING BRONX PARK CLEANUP WITH 200 EMPLOYEES

NY state and local elected officials and environmental partners join Anheuser-Busch for cleanup projects in Bronx Ferry Point Park

June 5, 2017, Bronx, NY – In celebration of World Environment Day, approximately 200 AB InBev and Anheuser-Busch New York employees joined state and local elected officials for a river and land cleanup at Ferry Point Park in the Bronx.

Volunteers from River Network, Living Lands and Waters, and the City Parks Foundation joined in the event with AB InBev and Anheuser-Busch employees getting their hands dirty cleaning up Ferry Point Park and the East River which runs along the park.

Ferry Point Park was one of more than 20 watershed protection projects that Anheuser-Busch hosted across the country for World Environment Day. This marks the eighth year that Anheuser-Busch has hosted World Environment Day Community Events in partnership with the River Network and local organizations from coast to coast. To date, nearly 10,000 Anheuser-Busch employees and community members have participated in more than 130 watershed protection cleanups and activities.

World Environment Day is a global day of action founded by the United Nations and celebrated each year on June 5. AB InBev employees around the world spend the day involved in activities like land and water cleanups, eco-challenges and tree planting.

Anheuser-Busch has called New York home for nearly 30 years and the company’s six New York facilities are leading the way in environmental stewardship. The brewer’s Bronx distribution center draws 36% of its power from 2,500 solar panels installed on the roof and its Baldwinsville Brewery recycles 100% of its solid waste.

Across the U.S., Anheuser-Busch’s breweries have reduced water use by 50% and recycling rates average 99.7% across all the company’s breweries.

“Without clean water, we can’t do what we love to do: brew and sell beer. That’s why we feel so strongly about protecting our waterways,” said Joao Castro Neves, Zone President and CEO North America, Anheuser-Busch. “New York is a special place for us. We’ve called the Bronx home for nearly 30 years, and our New York facilities are leading the way in environmental responsibility. Today continues our tradition of bringing partners and communities together to give back to the communities we call home.”

“Water is an increasingly scarce resource due to the rapid decline of watershed quality in many parts of the world. That’s why we’re enhancing our commitment to water stewardship. As the world’s largest brewer, we know it’s our responsibility,” said Carlos Brito, CEO, Anheuser-Busch InBev. “We recognize how important it is for companies, governments, non-profits and communities to work together at the local level to find new ways to protect our planet. And that’s part of what today is all about.”

“It’s amazing to see everyone come together for Anheuser-Busch’s eighth annual World Environment Day. Every year on this day we take a break from the day-to-day to get our hands dirty and do our part for the environment. This year alone, our teams across the U.S. are hosting 20 World Environment Day events,” said Katja Zastrow VP, Corporate Social Responsibility Better World at Anheuser-Busch.

“Growing up in the Bronx, you understand the value of hard work and the importance of giving back to the community. To the folks getting their hands dirty today, your work will benefit everyone who comes to visit this park. I want to thank Anheuser-Busch for their role as a great community partner and supporter of the Bronx,” said New York City Councilman Rafael Salamanca.

“Today’s Ferry Point Park cleanup is a perfect example of how we can work together to improve the quality of life for the people of this city. I want to thank Anheuser-Busch for their great work in bringing people together, investing in the local community, and doing their part to protect our planet. I’m proud to be here today and to support this cause,” said New York State Assemblyman Robert Rodriguez.

“I want to thank the folks at Anheuser-Busch for their commitment as a strong community partner in the Bronx for the last 30 years. The work here today is a powerful example of how working together we can take care of our planet and empower our community,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

“As a lifelong resident of the Bronx, I appreciate all of the hard work that Anheuser-Busch is doing to clean up Ferry Point Park. It’s so important for us to work together at the local level to protect our planet and the great state of New York,” said New York State Senator Jeff Klein.

“Anheuser-Busch has been a partner to the Bronx and our residents for over 30 years. The Ferry Point Park cleanup is an example of the good that comes from community partners coming together to better our neighborhoods, our state, and our planet,” said New York State Assemblyman Marcos A. Crespo.

“I want to thank Anheuser-Busch for organizing this great event at Ferry Point Park for World Environment Day. Today’s cleanup is just one example of how we can work together with companies and local organizations to take care of our green spaces and better the lives of Bronxites,” said New York State Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj.

“I’ve been working with Anheuser-Busch since 1999. I’ve worked with thousands of A-B employees and with their help, by the end of this year we will have removed 10 million pounds of garbage from America’s rivers. To me, the “green movement” is really red, white and blue. It’s about patriotism, and leaving this park, this borough, this country better than when we came. It’s an honor to work side by side with so many people at Anheuser-Busch,” said Chad Pregracke, founder of Living Lands & Waters.
