Chairman Crowley on Christopher Wray’s Nomination for FBI Director

(Washington, DC) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after President Trump nominated former Assistant Attorney General Christopher Wray as the next FBI director:

“The FBI director has a responsibility to the American people to support a thorough and serious investigation into Russia’s interference in the United States election, including what role the Trump campaign may have played and any efforts by the campaign or the administration to conceal the facts or obstruct justice.

“Christopher Wray must – in detail – explain how he’ll ensure the bureau will continue its work unobstructed by political concerns or pressure from the White House.

“Given the enormous weight of the task ahead of him, Wray should be subject to intense scrutiny and review. These investigations are too important for the future of American democracy to be given anything less.”
