Chairman Crowley on the 54th Anniversary of the Equal Pay Act

(Washington, DC) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement ahead of the 54th Anniversary of the Equal Pay Act. Crowley is a co-sponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which strengthens the Equal Pay Act to ensure women earn a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work:

“Equal pay is not just a women’s issue, it’s an economic concern that impacts every aspect of our society. Women today still make only 80 cents for every dollar earned by men, with African-American women and Latinas earning even less.

“This is why more progress must be made to fulfill the promise of the Equal Pay Act and close the gender wage gap. Here in Congress, I am committed to working to ensure that women and hard-working families, from those in Queens and the Bronx, to across the country, receive the equality they deserve.”
