The once Irish neighborhood of Norwood that had more that 20 bars that thrived along Bainbridge Avenue and East 204 Street in the mid 1990’s, is down to it’s last bar after the latest closing. Beso Lounge held its last night in business on Saturday, June 10, after just 7 years on East 204 Street and Perry Avenue. The club had recently been promoting a comedy night, but  abruptly decided to shut it’s doors. The owners now own the last watering-hole in the area, the Lexa Bar and Garden, located at 357 East 204 Street.

On November 9, McDwyer’s Pub that was across the street from Beso Lounge, closed after 50 years in business and the property remains vacant today.  At least two Spanish restaurants in the area serve beer and wine, but the traditional “neighborhood bar” was gone forever with the closing of McDwyer’s.
