Chairman Crowley Statement on Governor Cuomo’s Historic Nomination of Justice Paul Feinman to Court of Appeals

(Queens, NY) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo nominated Manhattan Appellate Justice Paul G. Feinman to fill an open seat on the Court of Appeals. If confirmed by the State Senate, Justice Feinman will be the first openly gay judge to serve on the high court of New York. The seat has been vacant since the death of Justice Sheila Abdus-Salaam in April.

“Justice Feinman is a highly-qualified candidate for the Court of Appeals and I applaud Governor Cuomo for this historic nomination. While he has a significant legacy to uphold in following Justice Abdus-Salaam, I’m confident Justice Feinman will be a strong asset to the bench. His nomination is an important advancement for the LGBT community and all of New York, as having a diverse judicial bench is of immense benefit to our justice system and the people it serves.”
