Chairman Crowley Statement on the Anniversary of the Supreme Court Ruling on Marriage Equality

(Queens, NY) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) released the following statement on the second anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality:

“Two years ago, we celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges as a monumental step forward in the fight for civil rights in this country. In Queens, the Bronx, and across our nation, individuals now have the fundamental right to marry who they love.

“But as we commemorate this extraordinary achievement, we must not lose sight of the fact that our pursuit of equality and justice has not yet ended. We will continue the fight to ensure equality for all Americans, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or religion.”

Crowley is a co-sponsor of the Equality Act, which would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include sexual orientation and gender identity as prohibited categories for discrimination or segregation in places of public accommodation.
