Their first dramatic win in their initial season for TM Bronx Hanks Yanks 16U team came with a walk-off grand slam home run early Tuesday evening at Randall’s Island Park.
Hanks Yanks, a community sponsored baseball program that is coordinated by Yankees executive Ray Negron and Yankees-co-owner Hank Steinbrenner enables youngsters to play organized baseball around the tri-state area.
TM Baseball Training Academy in the Westchester Square area of the borough is represented with three teams this Summer under the Hanks Yanks banner.
The walk-off grand slam homer came off the bat of Joshua Cruz that enabled his team to earn a 12-8 win over BK Royal.
The game was tied at eight with in the bottom of the fourth when Cruz hit the game winner. He drove in a total of four runs and went 2-for-2. A member of the South Bronx Phoenix PSAL division champions, Cruz got hold of a fastball and drove it over the left center field fence.
“I got hold of the pitch I was looking for,” Cruz said. He also drove in a run on a walk before his dramatic and ending hit. TM grabbed the early lead in the first inning.
BK Royal scored seven runs in the third inning. Their big inning was paced by two singles, a walk, and a home run.
