Congressman Serrano_No Cuts Coalition,Rep. Jose Serrano Joins Resistance to President Trump

Congressman Serrano joined the No Cuts Coalition, an alliance of 40 local community organizations, in fighting President Trump’s proposed $7 billion cuts to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which funds city agencies like NYCHA, and plans to eliminate the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) program, which has invested billions in community development initiatives in the Bronx.

“Trump’s proposal to cut funding for our nation’s public housing and economic development programs would have a terrible impact in underserved communities in the Bronx and the rest of New York, said Serrano.

Nominating Petition & Fundraising Report Deadlines Near

This weekend, political candidates made last-minute pushes for petition signatures and campaign cash. Monday is the first day to file nominating petitions to qualify for the September 12 Primary. Candidates must file by midnight Thursday, July 13 (the last day to file) their bound and paginated petition volumes at the offices of the City Board of Elections.

Friday, July 15 is the deadline for filing campaign fundraising and spending disclosures with the NYC Campaign Finance Board and the State Board of Elections. July 11 is the cut-off date for financial transactions subject to reporting on July 15th.

The vitality and viability of campaigns may be gauged by the strength of candidates’ petition and fundraising game.

From the Obama Administration to the City Council

Insurgent candidate Randy Abreu (District 14) was interviewed by NY1 Noticias political reporter Juan Manuel Benitez on Pura Politicía. Abreu is challenging incumbent Councilman Fernando Cabrera. The race is drawing considerable citywide attention because of Abreu’s Obama connection and the fact that progressives have targeted CM Cabrera because of his conservative views and a former enrolled Republican. Justin Sánchez y Félix Perdomo are two other announced candidates in CD 14. Abreu’s Pura Politica interview can be seen here.
