UPDATE: Extreme Heat Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect through 6 pm today.

High heat and humidity are expected, with temperatures in the 90s and heat index values in the upper 90s.

City officials remind New Yorkers that extreme heat affects all people but seniors and people with disabilities are particularly vulnerable.

To help New Yorkers beat the heat, for the first time this summer New York City has opened cooling centers throughout the five boroughs today.

To find local cooling centers and other heat related information Bronx residents can call 311 (TTY: 212-504-4115) or visit Beat The Heat.
