Chairman Crowley on Senate Republicans’ Health Care Vote

(Washington, DC) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after Senate Republicans voted to move forward with legislation that will undermine health care coverage for millions of Americans:

“Congressional Republicans have sought for years to undo the protections and support Americans receive under the Affordable Care Act. Today, they are one step closer to destabilizing health care in our country. I’m dismayed that instead of responding to the overwhelming voices of their constituents who urged them to vote against a repeal, 50 Republicans opted to allow the Senate to move forward and vote on legislation that would strip millions of their access to affordable care. What’s worse, they don’t even know which version of the bill they’re voting on.

“Americans are watching, and Democrats will not back down in our efforts to protect them. I urge all Americans to continue to make their voices heard as the Senate now considers the actual legislation that would kick millions off of their health insurance, punish Americans with pre-existing conditions, cut billions from the Medicaid program, and impose a crippling tax on seniors.
