Residents Return Home After Decatur Avenue Blaze

Residents of two homes in Norwood returned to their homes to survey the damage, hours after fire tore through both homes, injuring two residents and one firefighter.

Officials say the blaze broke out at 10:39 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25. Officials say the fire broke out on the second floor of 3138 Decatur Avenue, a 2-story 25 X 75-foot private home. The fire quickly spread to an adjacent home.

One FDNY source stated one civilian was removed in serious condition and a civilian and a firefighter were transported by EMS with minor injuries. All of the victims were taken to North Central Bronx Hospital, where they were all treated and released.

FDNY also reports that 106 firefighter’s from 25 units brought the fire under control at 11:38 p.m.

Returning to the home the following day, the unidentified owner of the home where the blaze began, stated through a translator that the fire started in her tenants apartment on the second-floor and was unsure how it started. She added that she and her injured husband were staying with friends.

A friend assisting the second home owner, stated whatever wasn’t destroyed by fire, was destroyed by the thousands of gallons of water used to extinguish the blaze. Those friend’s were busy helping the owner salvage an belongings not destroyed.

On Monday, July 31, the FDNY reported that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
