Chairman Crowley Statement on National Latino AIDS Awareness Day

(Queens, NY) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) released the following statement marking National Latino AIDS Awareness Day:

“National Latino AIDS Awareness Day allows for us to remember those we have lost to this devastating disease and recommit ourselves to the fight against HIV/AIDS. We have made tremendous progress, but much more needs to be done to educate, raise awareness, and eliminate this disease.”

In comparison with other races and ethnicities, Latinos in the U.S. are disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Latinos accounted for 24 percent of new diagnoses in the United States in 2015.
