Chairman Crowley Statement on the September Jobs Report

(Queens, NY) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) released the following statement on the Labor Department report that the U.S. economy lost 33,000 jobs in September:

“The U.S. economy is not working as it should for middle-class America. Too many men and women feel left behind in the workforce and left behind by President Trump and the Republican-led Congress, which have both proved unable to move past partisan pursuits and legislate for the good of hardworking families.

“Today’s job report is yet another sign that the Trump administration’s slash-and-burn style of governing is cause for concern for businesses and our economy. Democrats want to see an infrastructure investment that puts Americans back to work by propelling our country forward. We’re looking for a tax reform plan that doesn’t heap benefits on the wealthy while leaving nothing left for the hardest-working Americans. And with many areas of our country still reeling from recent natural disasters, we want a commitment from the administration and congressional Republicans that more will be done to alleviate the financial hardships facing our fellow Americans.”

“It is well past time that Republicans join Democrats at the negotiating table to find real solutions that will help everyday Americans.”
