Chairman Crowley Statement on Congressman Conyers
(Queens, NY) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement on the allegations against Congressman John Conyers, Jr.:
“The allegations against Congressman Conyers are incredibly serious and there should be an Ethics investigation into the matter.
“It’s clear that sexual harassment runs across all industries and knows no political boundaries. That must end.
“Congress’ reporting system must be immediately reformed, including requiring that members and staff receive mandatory sexual harassment and assault prevention training. We also need to put sunlight on the settlement process to ensure it is transparent. Congress must lead the way in making the workplace one that respects all individuals. For these reasons, I have endorsed Congresswoman Jackie Speier’s legislation to reform our current reporting system.”
