STATEMENT FROM COUNCIL MEMBER ANDY KING REGARDING EX-COP MICHAEL SLAGER FACING PRISON FOR SHOOTING DEATH OF WALTER SCOTT
“Today in South Carolina, a white officer will be sentenced to decades behind bars for killing an unarmed black man and this is an occasion of justice, not joyfulness. All too often, families of slain people of color do not see any accountability from a justice system, but today a judge sent a strong message that black lives matter and they cannot be stolen from us without consequence. Let this be a clarion call for us in New York and around the nation to hold law enforcement accountable when they have done wrong, just as we celebrate their courage and sacrifice when they have done right by us,” said Council Member Andy King.
