Chairman Crowley Congratulates Recipients of Fulbright Award
(Queens, N.Y.) – On Friday, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) congratulated Queens residents Alexandria Garcia, Jennifer Spindler, and Chelsea Raymond on the successful completion of the prestigious Fulbright Program. Additionally, Congressman Crowley presented the Fulbright Scholars with certificates of Congressional recognition.
“I commend these Fulbrighters for their devotion to public service,” said Congressman Crowley. “It was a great pleasure to recognize the achievements of my fellow Queens residents, who devoted their time to improving the lives of others. The Fulbright program is an American treasure, one that builds international bonds between our future leaders and their counterparts abroad. Alexandria, Jennifer, and Chelsea, thank you for representing New York so well through your dedication and hard work.”
The Fulbright program, founded in 1946, is a flagship international educational program sponsored by the U.S. government. It’s designed to increase mutual understanding between Americans and the people of other countries.
Garcia, an Astoria resident, spent her time teaching English, international civics, and personal finance in Spain; Spindler, also from Astoria, worked with a child development nonprofit in Chile; and Raymond, from Sunnyside, studied sport psychology in Scotland, with a focus on self-efficacy amongst underserved youth.
Fulbright Board member Melda Yildiz, a former President of New Jersey Fulbright and Chair of the Instructional Technology program at the New York Institute of Technology, also attended the meeting.
The merit-based grants are awarded annually in most academic disciplines and fields of study.
