STATEMENT FROM STATE SENATOR GUSTAVO RIVERA ON SCHOOL SHOOTING IN PARKLAND, FLORIDA

(Bronx, NY) – State Senator Gustavo Rivera released the following statement regarding the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

“Yet another school shooting leaves the nation deeply saddened. The 17 lives lost and too many physical and emotional injuries to count at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday are sorrowful, but part of the pain comes from knowing that there hasn’t been any action since the last mass shooting to prevent this. Policymakers writing another statement of thoughts and prayers doesn’t help anyone. We must pass laws limiting access to guns to ensure the safety of children and adults at every level of government in the only country where this happens routinely.

I would like to direct your attention to the lives of the victims of the shooting as we remember what matters: our loved ones and their safety. I will keep their lives and their families in my heart as we continue to fight for the policies that we desperately need. We will remember.”
