Chairman Crowley Recognized for Supporting Community Health Centers

(Bronx, NY) – Today, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) was honored by staff and patients at Urban Health Plan for his years of leadership and advocacy on behalf of community health centers in New York and across America.

Urban Health Plan is a non-profit, federally-qualified community health center that operates branches throughout Queens, the Bronx, and New York City. Chairman Crowley has long-supported increased federal funding for community health centers that provide primary and specialty care, as well as support services, to New York families.

“Urban Health Plan is one of thousands of community health centers across the country that bring together doctors, specialists, and clinics to vastly improve the health and welfare of our families,” said Chairman Crowley. “From maternal care to support for seniors, these centers are a lifeline to underserved communities. I am honored to receive this award from Urban Health Plan, and I remain committed to expanding federal funding for these much-needed institutions.”

In New York alone, community health centers support more than 2 million residents. These centers, and the individuals they serve, rely on federal funding and programs like Medicaid to cover the costs of care.

Chairman Crowley has led opposition to Republican-proposed cuts to Medicaid and federal funding for community health centers. In September, Chairman Crowleystood against Republicans’ refusal to reauthorize funding for federal programs supporting community health centers.
