The All-Stars Look To Pitch In To Strike Out Poverty

By Jason Gonzalez

Yankee pitcher CC Sabathia will be hosting a celebrity softball game at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. All of the proceeds generated from the event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 28 at 6:30 pm, will benefit the PitCCh In Foundation.

The PitCCh In Foundation was started back in 2009 by Sabathia and his wife Amber. The foundation’s mission is to enrich the lives of inner city youth by raising their self-esteem through educational and athletic activities.

“As a kid, I got a chance to meet Dave Stewart [former Oakland Athletics pitcher], and it changed the way I thought about giving back,” said Sabathia. “Him taking the time out of his day to come visit my Boys and Girls Club really meant a lot to me.”

Sabathia, along as his teammate Giancarlo Stanton, will serve as managers of their respective team.

A lot of former and current Yankees will serve in the capacity of a coaching role, while both rosters will be rounded out by many other recognizable athletes to achieve success off the diamond. Sports stars such as Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada, Victor Cruz, Tracy McGrady, Antonio Cromartie, Terrell Owens, Tiki Barber, Charles Oakley, Leonard Fournette, Isaac Rochell, Jamal Adams and Saquon Barkley to name a few.

The entertainment world, as well as Hip Hop will be ‘repping’, and expected to take swings too. Dasha Polanco, A Boogie, Leslie Jones, Rapsody, Action Bronson, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Michael Rapaport, Desus Nice and Christopher Jackson look to bring it home, while Breakfast Club host and Power 105 radio personality DJ Envy spins on the wheels of steel [turntables].

In the past, The PitCCh In foundation has held events at different locations in New York City involving basketball and bowling.

Tickets are still available and be purchased at ticketmaster.com and at the box office at the Stadium. Tickets prices in the general seating area range between $20-$100.
