Local elected officials joined clergy leaders standing together outside of the Bronx Supreme Court, demanding that all 2,300 children who were separated from family members at the border– be reunited. The rally / protest was held on Friday, June 22. Elected officials in attendance included Assemblyman Jose Rivera, Councilman Mark Gjonaj, Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson, Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., Congressman Joseph Crowley, Senator Jeff Klein, Assemblyman Marcos Crespo and Senator Luis Sepulveda. Invited members of the clergy included Bishop Angel Rosario and Rabbi Bob Kaplan. The event was called a day after it was learned that 700 children had been placed in New York State, including two locations in the Bronx. Demonstrators linked arms and vowed to fight the zero-tolerance police of the Trump administration.
