SENATOR RIVERA PASSES BILL TO REQUIRE STATE AGENCIES TO PRODUCE AN ANNUAL REPORT TO HELP DETERMINE OUR STATE’S WORKFORCE AND EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

(Albany, NY) – State Senator Gustavo Rivera released the following statement after bill S1099A passed the New York State Senate. This bill will require the New York State Department of Education, in consultation with the New York State Department of Labor and other state agencies, to produce an annual report on our State’s workforce projections and education credential production. Further, the report seeks to identify our State’s anticipated workforce needs while determining whether the various programs currently being offered at our State’s career and technical institutions are assisting in filling out these workforce needs. This bill is sponsored by Assemblymember Victor Pichardo in the New York State Assembly.

“This annual report will help our State better identify the existing gaps in our workforce and provide a road map that will help us adequately determine and target where we need to invest more resources to ensure we have a diverse and prepared workforce, and a thriving economy. Understanding what sectors of our economy and educational system are growing or struggling will help us keep much needed jobs in New York State and inject further dynamism into our State’s various industries. I am proud that my colleagues in the State Senate joined me in passing this important bill to ensure we have a comprehensive overview of the current workforce and educational needs of our State. I’m committed to working diligently with my colleagues in the New York State Assembly to make this bill into law.”
