(Yonkers, NY) – Stop (and donate) in the name of blood! Empire City Casino and New York Blood Center (NYBC) are teaming up in response to an emergency blood donation appeal. To help replenish the region’s critically low blood levels, Empire City and NYBC will hold a public blood drive on Friday, August 17 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the casino’s Good Time Room on the third floor. Empire City Casino is located at 810 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY and offers free general parking for all guests and participants.

As a token of appreciation for making a life-saving donation, all blood drive participants will receive a voucher to redeem a pair of tickets to a 2018 Mets game at Citi Field. Participants will be able to choose from a list of available game dates to fit their schedule and rivalry preferences.

This drive comes at a particularly important time as area hospitals currently face a blood emergency. In order to maintain a safe blood supply, a seven-day inventory of all blood types must be continually replenished. Right now, reserves are below that minimum.

“Every single day, blood donations help save lives – and right now, the need is critical,” said Andrea Cefarelli, senior executive director of donor recruitment for New York Blood Center. “We’re calling on everyone to do what they can to spread the word, host a blood drive or simply take an hour out of their day to donate.”

“Empire City Casino is honored to partner with New York Blood Center again for such an important cause,” said Taryn Duffy, director of public affairs for Empire City Casino. “We encourage all adults who can donate to come join us on August 17 to help the New York Blood Center replenish their stock so they may continue helping our communities in such an important manner.”

To schedule an appointment to participate in the August 17 blood drive at Empire City Casino, visit NYBloodCenter.org. Walk-ins are also welcome on a first come, first served basis.

To check eligibility to donate blood, contact the NYBC Eligibility Line at 1-800-688-0900. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 75, and weighing at least 110 pounds, is a potential donor. A photograph or signature ID must be presented at the time of donation. NYBC strongly suggests donors eat well-balanced meals before giving blood. Prior to the blood donation, the on-site donor specialists will check blood pressure, temperature, iron levels and pulse of all donors to ensure that they are healthy enough to give blood.
