CITY PARKS FOUNDATION KICKS-OFF FREE FALL SPORTS PROGRAMS FOR NYC YOUTH IN ADDITION TO SENIORS FITNESS PROGRAMS

Programs include Golf, Track & Field, and Seniors Fitness in NYC Parks plus the return of a Street Hockey program

City Parks Foundation is kicking off its 2018 Fall Sports Program for young people and seniors this September. City Parks Foundation provides free programs each year to over 12,000 New York City children and 1,000 seniors. This Fall, we will host over 300 youth and 500 seniors in 26 neighborhood parks and recreation centers for participation in FREE programs in golf, track & field, street hockey, yoga and fitness walking instruction. Registration for all programs are now open online and in person at each park site.

CityParks Golf presented by Fondation LACOSTE and The First Tee NYC makes it fun and easy for boys and girls, ages six to 17, to learn to play golf in two locations during the Fall. The Junior Golf Center Annex in Flushing, Queens offers free lessons once a week from September 15 – October 28. The Junior Golf Center in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn offers free lessons once a week from September 4 – October 22. The program teaches kids the basics of the sport, and helps them develop self-esteem, discipline and sportsmanship. Dedicated players can ultimately try out for the CityParks Intermediate Program and Junior Golf Academy – specialized programs available at the CityParks Junior Golf Center, a facility in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn that also offers programming for beginners.

CityParks Track & Field, presented in partnership with New York Road Runners and supported by the Randall’s Island Park Alliance, held in 4 parks, gives New York City kids the chance to learn the basics of the sport, from hurdles and relay races, to long jump, shot put and javelin throw. The free Track & Field program runs from September 15 – October 21 in Brooklyn and Queens, and is held once per week, available to youth ages eight – 14. The Jesse Owens Fall Track program introduces novice runners to cross country distance running through runs from East Harlem to Randall’s Island Park. The Fall program will also incorporate a variety of track and field activities. This free weekly track & field youth program runs from September 8 – October 27 in Manhattan, and is held once per week, available to youth ages eight – 14. CityParks Street Hockey presented by the New York Islanders, a returning program this Fall,will be held in 3 local neighborhood parks in Brooklyn and Queens. The free program will teach youth instruction and play for ages eight – 12 at the beginner and intermediate level. Participants will learn basic hockey skills such as stickhandling, passing, shooting and core life skills such as safety, teamwork and sportsmanship. The free program runs from October 2 – November 8, and is held once per week, at two one-hour sessions at each location. CityParks Senior Fitness, presented in partnership with New York Road Runners, is held in 17 neighborhood parks across the city, giving New Yorkers 60+ the chance to participate in free tennis lessons, yoga and fitness walking from from September 17 – October 26.
