The Racial Wealth Gap: A Dialogue and Solutions, to be held September 10, 2018 at the Manhattan campus.

The event is hosted by the MCNY Racial & Social Justice Initiative: Where Constructive Action Meets Collective Action. This inaugural program of the initiative focuses on the profound economic inequality that limits life chances, often along racial lines, in America.  New York State Senator James Sanders, Jr. and Professor Darrick Hamilton will lead the discussion about the complexities of the racial wealth gap and wealth inequality.  They will also be available for interviews.

Who:   

  • New York State Democratic Senator James Sanders, Jr., (Southeast Queens). Now in his third term, Sanders is the ranking Democrat for the Senate Committee on Banks and heads the Senate Task Force on Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE).
  • Professor Darrick Hamilton is an economist at the New School whose renowned work focuses on the causes, consequences, and remedies of racial and ethnic inequality in economic and health outcomes.
