From Buckets of Ice to Barrels of Laughs,

Empire City Casino to Host Inaugural Quinn for the Win Comedy Benefit

in Support of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Co-Founder & Yonkers Native Pat Quinn

(Yonkers, NY) — Supporting a few comedic jokes may help finally put ALS on ice. Empire City Casino, the host venue for one of the area’s largest simultaneous ice bucket challenges occurring every August in support of ALS research, is taking the fight against the debilitating disease one step further by hosting the inaugural Quinn for the Win Comedy Benefit on Thursday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the casino’s Good Time Room. One hundred percent of ticket sales benefit Yonkers native Pat Quinn, who was diagnosed with ALS more than five years ago, and his charitable organization Quinn for the Win.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ALS, a disease with no known cure, usually strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70. Approximately 20,000 Americans currently suffer from the disease. Pat Quinn, now 35-years-old, was diagnosed with ALS in March 2013 at the age of 30.

Combining a sense of humor with Yonkers’ sense of humility and compassion, comedians Chris Monty and Jimmy Q will deliver jokes to raise valuable dollars to support Quinn’s care and additional ALS research. Hailing from Queens, Monty’s two-decade career in comedy and television transcends multiple generations from baby boomers to millennials. His recent projects include the Amazon Prime special, What’s The Worst That Could Happen, and the Netflix original series, Orange is the New Black. Joining him is Jimmy Q, who brings his brutally honest humor about life to audiences all across the region.

We continue to be inspired by Pat’s courage and determination to find a cure for ALS,” said Taryn Duffy, vice president of corporate communications & public affairs for Empire City Casino.Whether we’re dropping hundreds of buckets of freezing cold ice water or delivering classic one-liners, we’ll stand right by Pat’s side until the very day we find a cure. We’re all about community and taking care of our own, and we’re grateful to the city of Yonkers, our first responders and our close community of residents who continue to support the Pat Quinn and his family.”

Laughter truly is the best medicine, it helps keep the spirit positive,” adds Comedian Chris Monty.

There is no better way to bring a smile to your face than a good laugh,” said Pat Quinn, co-founder of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Empire City continues to show their support for my fight against ALS on Thursday, October 18th with this incredible comedy night. Please join us for what is guaranteed to be a great time with a whole lot of laughter. Hope to see you there!

Since co-founding the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge over five years ago, significant advances have been made in ALS research and technology to help those who have been affected. Quinn, who lost the ability to speak last year, recently regained his voice thanks to new technology made possible by the dollars that have been raised. Also in recent years, researchers discovered a new gene associated with ALS that may one day lead to a cure.

Tickets for the comedy benefit are on-sale now with pre-sale tickets only $39 if purchased by October 8th, after which tickets increase to $49. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the show. To support the fight against ALS and for more information on Quinn for the Win, please visit www.q4tw.com.
