NY1 Interview on holding NYCHA and the Administration Accountable
NYCHA residents deserve answers. Councilman Mark Gjonaj spoke to NY1 on holding NYCHA and the Administration accountable for the disrepair of public housing. It is not acceptable that the Administration is telling NYCHA residents that they are working on the problem. Maybe one day their children’s children will not be forced to live in such conditions.
NYC Council Committee on Public Housing Hearing
During the NYC Council Committee on Public Housing Hearing, Councilman Mark Gjonaj stressed that with a 32-billion dollar deficit, and rising, we need action. To date, the administration has proposed RAD/PACT, but no other proposals are on the table. Even with these plans, NYCHA will still not be able to reach financial sustainability. We cannot afford to go one more winter without heat or hot water. The federal monitor is only a half measure-we need concrete action for the nearly half a million New Yorkers who call NYCHA buildings home.
