Officers from the 44th Precinct responded to a call of an assault in progress, at a first-floor apartment at 760 Grand Concourse, at 9:42 p.m. on Saturday, November 24.

Officers discovered the female resident “unconscious & unresponsive” with a gunshot wound to her face. The victim, later identified as Wendy Martinez, 45, was declared dead at the scene.

Martinez was a mother of two boys and was a receptionist at nearby Lincoln Hospital.

Several sources close to the case say investigators believe her son Brian Solano was the intended target, as Solano was recently released from jail after a private investigator discovered evidence that prompted the judge to release him before trial.

Solano was scheduled to appear today, Monday, December 3 at the Bronx Hall of Justice– as the prime suspect in the December 18, 2014 shooting death of Willie Lora, 21, on Macombs Road.

The Bronx District Attorney has announced that Solano’s scheduled hearing has been postponed a week.

In announcing the reward, the NYPD released a surveillance video of an unidentified male who is wanted for questioning in regards to the killing.

The potential suspect is seen walking to the victims apartment door and then running away. He is described as a male in his 20’s, with a medium complexion and build. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark sweatpants with the Miami Heat logo on the left let and a dark colored baseball cap.

Meanwhile, a Gofundme page was set up by friends and has so far raised $16,250, well on the way to their goal of $25,000, that will cover the cost of sending Martinez’ body back to the Dominican Republic for burial.
