Heavy rain and strong winds was the cause of several accidents reported across the borough, on Friday, December 21. At just after 6 a.m., officials were called to 3874 Sedgwick Avenue at Stevenson Place, for a fallen tree across the roadway. No injuries were reported and no vehicles were struck by the limbs, but Sedgwick Avenue was closed for most of the day, as Con Edison removed the tree from power lines and Parks Department officials made mulch of the tree. The Van Cortlandt Branch of the New York Public Library, across the street from the tree, was closed for the day. Meanwhile, the weather may have also played a factor in a crash along Webster Avenue at East 202 Street, where one child was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. No injuries were reported at the collapse of a retaining wall at 915 Ogden Avenue, on the grounds of a site that had been slated for demolition.
