Bronx DA: Bronx Prosecutor Receives Morgenthau Award

Executive ADA Odalys C. Alonso Will Be Honored By DAASNY Today

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark today announced that Executive Assistant District Attorney Odalys C. Alonso is a recipient of the Morgenthau Award from the District Attorneys Association of New York (DAASNY).

District Attorney Clark said, “Odalys has served the people of the Bronx for decades and is a deserving recipient of this prestigious award. She currently serves as an Executive Assistant District Attorney, Chief of the Operations & Budget Division. When I became Bronx District Attorney in 2016, Odalys helped me to restructure the Office, and she has been instrumental in implementing new policies and programs. Odalys helped create alternative to incarceration programs and special court initiatives, including the Overdose Avoidance and Recovery (OAR) program, which has been expanded to other counties in New York City. I am proud to have on my staff someone who has tirelessly dedicated her career to serving the Bronx community.”

Ms. Alonso, a native Bronxite, joined the Bronx District Attorney’s Office in 1986. She handled cases in the Narcotics Bureau during the height of the crack epidemic. She has served as Supervisor in Criminal Court and Grand Jury, where she taught and mentored hundreds of new Assistant District Attorneys, and as Chief of the Arraignment and Complaint Room Bureau.

In 1999, Ms. Alonso joined the Executive Staff as Administrative Assistant District Attorney and then Executive Assistant District Attorney. In 2007, Ms. Alonso was named Chief Assistant District Attorney to then-Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson.

The Morgenthau Award was established in 2009 and honors one Assistant District Attorney from each of four regions of New York State. The award, named after Robert M. Morgenthau, legendary New York County District Attorney, is given to individuals who embody the same professional accomplishments, integrity and commitment to justice Mr. Morgenthau possessed during his 34-year tenure.

Ms. Alonso will receive the award today at DAASNY’s Annual Awards Luncheon of the 2019 Winter Conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan.
