Robinson Cano Meets Bronx Latino Leaders

Earlier today, Robinson Canó and Luis Rojas joined students at Ellis Prep (NYC Mission Society) in the Riverdale area of the Bronx and participated in a student-designed project about character and identity.

The Mets’ Latino Leaders Program aims to utilize the appeal of the Mets and their Latino players to motivate, cultivate and empower Latino students to become exemplary leaders in their schools and their communities.

Located on the campus of John F. Kennedy High School, met with a group of young men from the English Language Learners and International Support (ELLIS) Preparatory Academy, a high school for new immigrants ahes 16 and older.

“We (Dominicans) all say the same thing,” Cano said we’re going to get a house for our mom. ” The emphasis was working towards establish goals and making an impact.

Students will be guests of the Mets and attend the Thursday matinee game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Cano , a veteran second baseman who played nine years in the Bronx as a Yankee said, “I never got a chance to see any celebrity or anybody come to (my) school. Knowing how it feels whenever you see a celebrity or a guy that is successful in lie and (he) comes to talk to you that’s something I would have appreciated back then.”
