Retired Knicks Player John Wallace Presents Awards To Student Athletes

RETIRED KNICKS PLAYER JOHN WALLACE SPOKE AND PRESENTED TROPHIES TO STUDENTS AT THE NEW YORK INSTITUTE FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION ANNUAL SPORTS AWARDS CEREMONY

At the event, Wallace shared an inspiring speech of his experiences playing basketball and his career playing for Syracuse University and the New York Knicks. He then helped present the the student athletes with their trophies.

John Wallace, famed basketball player from Greece Athena High School who went on to play at Syracuse University and the New York Knicks, gave an inspirational speech and helped present trophies to more than 100 student athletes from the Schermerhorn and Van Cleve programs at the New York Institute for Special Education’s annual Sports Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 30.

The New York Institute for Special Education, founded in 1831 as The New York Institution for the Blind, is one of the oldest and most respected schools in the nation that provides specialized services for children with disabilities. Located in the Bronx since 1924, NYISE provides quality programs for more than 300 students from New York City’s five boroughs, Westchester County and upstate New York, including more than 120 children from the Bronx, ages 3 to 5, who attend its preschool.

The ceremony celebrates the determination, spirit and success in sports achieved by the students with visual impairments and emotional disabilities, who have excelled in basketball, wrestling, track and field, goal ball and cheerleading. The school has an extensive athletic program and student teams compete with other schools for the disabled.
