Psalms 37:23-24 NKJV
Psalms 37:23-24
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand.”
On this Father’s Day, I want to address my article to the men. I think I’m in agreement with the psalmist when I say that the Lord desires to order, or give direction to, our steps. God wants to lovingly give direction to every step we take. He has given us our marching orders. It’s up to us to follow His directive or not. The great theologian Charles H. Spurgeon said, “No reckless fate, no fickle chance rules us; our every step is the subject of divine decree.”
Not only has the Lord set the course, but He takes pleasure when we walk in the way He has set before us. Just as a father delights to see his child take their first steps, our heavenly Father delights when we walk in His light. He has ordered our steps so that we will be able to navigate the storms and hard times of life. Fathers are not to just be contributors to the conception, but we are to follow in the steps He has ordered for us. He will walk with us, He will talk with us, and He will be close enough to us to pick us up when we fall. We might go down, but we won’t be counted out, never will we be utterly cast down. There, in the closeness of an intimate walk, is where we feel the comfort and security of His hand.
When our days become dreary with low hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is God. He is the creative force of this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil. He has the power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform our dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows.
If you’ve never walked with Him, if you have never received His into your life as Lord and Master, savior and king, you can’t know what I’m talking about. One who does not allow Him to order his steps will never know. But if you do, your tough times are minimized, your future is settled, and your life will be maintained by a gracious God who wants only what’s best for you. He gives us the assurance that tough times never last, but tough people do! Take a long walk sometime this week with no defined destination and no distractions. Ask the Lord to order your steps. Ask Him to take you where He wants you to be and then listen as He speaks in that soft, small voice that assures you that He holds you in the hollow of His hand. You will then know and be blessed because you will be a man under God’s rule.
