Matters of Faith: Just a Few

Judges 7:7 (TLB)
“I’ll conquer the Midianites with these three hundred!” the Lord told Gideon. “Send all the others home!”

One song writer said, “It’s a mighty good thing to be chosen by God!” It means God has decided to use you for a particular purpose. You may or may not have ability, but God is not looking for your ability; He’s looking at your availability.

A lot like Gideon’s army, far too many of us who might be chosen are more self-minded than we are kingdom-minded. We are more concerned about getting our own means met than we are about our availability to God for His use. Twenty-two thousand of the original 33,000 in Gideon’s army left because they were afraid. The Lord instructed Gideon to send the remaining 10,000 to the stream to drink. There He would observe them. Of them, 9,700 knelt down and put their heads in the stream. Only 300 scooped the water into their hands and lapped like dogs. It was with these 300 soldiers that the Lord defeated 120,000 Midianites.

The 300 did not display military skills, not even exceptional or special talents. They simply watched while they drank. They were alert and paying attention to the things going on around them. This is an important characteristic for those who are chosen by God.

The chosen have to be observant because the battle is not always against another army; “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

Most are not ready to go to war. It’s always just a few. But the good thing about being one of the few is that we are truly more than conquerors through Him who loves us. When we make ourselves available for Him to use, we are assured of victory over all our worldly issues. 1 John‬ ‭5:4‬ ‭(CEV‬‬) says, “Every child of God can defeat the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory.”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

God is still looking for and uses people who watch while they drink. He is still looking for and choosing the few.

Be Blessed +++
