We all know how good the Yankees are this year and beating up on teams like the Baltimore Orioles was expected. The bombers didn’t even take batting practice Tuesday night prior to their 8-3 win in the Bronx.
They were getting Batting practice from the Birds pitching staff. It was yet another embarrassment for this once very proud organization. I know Jim Palmer must have been cringing again as he watched from the Orioles’ TV broadcasting booth high above home plate.
By the way, today marks the date the Hall of Fame pitcher threw his only no hitter vs the Oakland A’s in 1969, the last complete game no-hitter by an Oriole pitcher.
But Baltimore’s problems are not the concern of the Yankees or their fans. These are two ships headed in two different directions. One is headed to Jupiter and Mars and the other is headed for an iceberg in the North Atlantic.
This series has been like a practice simulated game in anticipation of the Cleveland Indians, who are headed to town for the weekend. Maybe they will be one of the Yankee’s opponents in the playoffs and we will get a chance to see how they match up.
One thing for sure is that the Yankees are rolling and seem unbeatable. They went through the Rays and the Red Sox recently and show no signs of slowing down. Can you imagine if they had all their regulars playing?
One of the reasons the Yankees didn’t make any trades before the July 31 deadline had to be the fact that any player in their organization not on the 25 man roster that other teams were asking for, were needed to fill those spots of starters on the DL.
Ironically they are the reason the Yankees are 80 – 41 and running away with the division. Shoot, they even had another young (24 year old) Adonis Rosa make his major league debut tonight and just like that, he strikes out the first batter he faces and has a 1,2,3 inning.
One more with the O’s and then we will see if the dog days of August will affect these Yankee bats with the Indians in for four, then a trip to the west coast to face the Oakland A’s for three, and a big three game series with the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Have a feeling they will still be running away with the division when they return.
