Community Mourns Dennis Wales

By Rich Mancuso/Sports Editor

The Bronx and Morris Park community are sad to hear about the passing of Dennis Wales. The community activist and volunteer to many sports organizations that included the Castle Hill Little League passed away this week after an illness.

Wales, was known to go that extra mile for youth and the community. The belief was always about how significant sports plays a role to guide young people. Many times over the years, Wales, wore a Yankees cap at Little League ballgames and other events, that signified his love for the Bronx Bombers and for the sport of baseball.

Recently he said to yours truly,” Castle Hill Little League will always be a part of my life.” And the league for 20=years was a part of the Dennis Wales legacy and helping young people.

In a voluntary capacity. Dennis Wales was second in command to the league president. He was also a coach and umpire.

More importantly, and when it came to the community, Wales became instrumental in securing local and government grants to fund youth leagues and programs.

On a personal note, he was always there for yours truly. Two years ago, in a housing court case, Dennis Wales and on his own time offered to represent me . His expertise and ability to understand were tireless.

Of course, the end result was a success. and of course it had to be. Because Dennis Wales saw that results were the end to a journey. Now his journey is to always look down on us and be our guide as he was in the community.

Rest in peace my friend.
