Most of the small audience at the public hearing on the sale of thirty-four acres of the old Bronx Psychiatric Center were members of the Carpenters Union. Only four members of the public spoke with two from the Carpenters Union who asked that any jobs be union jobs at the prevailing wage. Lisa Sorin the President of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce spoke in favor of the sale to Simone Developers. The last speaker Ms. Roxanne Delgado complained of the lack of knowledge of the hearing, saying she heard of it only earlier in the day. She was told that the local elected officials were given the information to disseminate to the public.
Thirty-four acres of the old Bronx Psychiatric Center were sold to next door neighbor Simone Developers at a cost of 14.7 million dollars. The site will be transformed into over two million square feet for medical, office, educational, and other uses. Three current buildings will be renovated and expanded, six new buildings with parking are to be built, and the four old ballfields will be transformed into two new state of the art ballfields.
There are to be new roads put in connecting to the new Morris Park Metro North station, and new on/off ramps to the Hutchinson River Parkway. This expected to be done in two phases. Phase one to be completed by 2023, and Phase two by 2028.
