A veteran of the Persian Gulf War, Linda Anesta Williams has earned a place among New York’s elite veterans with her honorable military service and dedicated efforts to improve the lives of her fellow Westchester County veterans.
Born in Yonkers in 1952, Ms. Williams joined the United States Army Reserve in 1981, serving as part of the 353rd Civil Affairs Command Unit. She spent several years stationed in Germany, and on December 27, 1991, her 39th birthday, she was called to serve her country in the Persian Gulf War.
Upon returning from her tour of duty in the Gulf, Ms. Williams became a member of the Sam Dow Post #1017 of the American Legion, based in Yonkers. In May 2002, she was elected by her peers to serve as Vice Commander of the Post. In 2003, Ms. Williams became the first woman in Westchester County history to be elected as an American Legion Post Commander, an honor she continues to cherish.
Among her many notable efforts on behalf of Westchester County veterans, Ms. Williams helped lead the effort to assume ownership of the property on which the Post is located from the City of Yonkers, allowing for a more permanent and secure future for County veterans.
