COUNCIL MEMBER FERNANDO CABRERA CALLS FILTHY STREETS PUBLIC HEALTH HAZARD, CALLS FOR CITY COUNCIL HEARING ON TRASH PICK-UP

Bronx, NY – Calling the pile up of trash and food waste in neighborhood streets, sidewalks and parks a “public health hazard,” Council Member Fernando today called for the New York City Council’s Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management to hold a public hearing.

“Our neighborhoods are in a disgraceful and unhealthy condition,” said Cabrera.  “The vast majority of calls I receive from my constituents are about the lack of street cleaning and trash pickup.  Inevitably, this will lead to another public health crisis by increasing the presence of rodents, which are already a big problem.  As a member of the City Council’s Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management, I’ve requested the chairperson to hold an oversight hearing with the Department of Sanitation.”

Council Member Cabrera is available for interviews.
