DISTRICT COUNCIL 9 MEMBERS LEND THEIR TIME AND SKILLS TO REPAINT THE WOMEN’S PRESS COLLECTIVE

DC 9 Women’s Committee members volunteer with the WPC Pressroom Renovation Project

BRONX, NY – On Saturday, November 7, District Council 9 Women’s Committee members volunteered with the Women’s Press Collective to repaint their pressroom in the Bronx. The members repainted two rooms that will be used for printing presses and other graphic arts equipment for their Press Training Sessions.

The Women’s Press Collective unites media workers – journalists, writers, graphic designers, printers and others together with a larger community to participate in the fight for media that tells the truth. They run a free-of-charge Publication Benefit Program for members – providing on-the-job training in writing, journalism, graphic design and press operations.

“District Council 9 is proud to partner with the Women’s Press Collective, which offers valuable on-the-job training in the media and press. We understand the incredible value in apprenticeship-style programs and are proud to be able to contribute our skills and expertise to help others build successful careers,” said BM/ST Joseph Azzopardi. “We hope that the newly renovated space will be able to serve and benefit the community.”

“We are so thankful for the time and energy donated by the DC 9 Women’s Committee,” said Lisa Daniell, WPC Operations Manager. “As an organization that is 100% run by volunteers, we often depend on the generous contributions of other organizations in New York in solidarity with our goals, principles and programs. And thanks to the work of DC 9 members, we are now one step closer to completing the renovation of the Pressroom at our Bronx facility.”

Serving communities in need is a central pillar of District Council 9’s mission. DC 9 works to establish partnerships with organizations in areas where our members live and work that reflect the values of DC 9. By offering their time and skills, DC 9 hopes to continue help build up communities through our ongoing community outreach efforts with partners like the Women’s Press Collective.
