Bronx, NY- Citing the economic impact of the loss of New York City restaurants, today New York City Council and Majority Whip Member Fernando Cabrera called for restaurant workers to be added to the priority groups for the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I’ve been saying for months that bringing back the vibrancy of New York City’s economic life depends in great measure on the survival of its restaurants. Now that Governor Cuomo has allowed New York City restaurants to re-open at 25% on February 14th, we need to protect restaurant workers by adding them to the essential worker priority list for the vaccine and allow indoor dining at 50% capacity. This will not only protect the workers, many of whom are immigrants and who have suffered disproportionately in terms of health and income, from the coronavirus pandemic, but it would also give potential restaurant patrons more confidence in the safety of indoor dining. This would have a positive exponential effect in reviving restaurant dining, saving jobs and re-generating lost revenues in the City.”
Council Member Cabrera is available for interviews.
