This week enjoy exclusive after-hours experience in the gardens! Join us under the summer evening sky for a guided mediation with Sara Hart of iHart Lens. Then learn about the bats that live and migrate through the Bronx. You’ll be able to search for these nocturnal creatures on the grounds!

On the weekend, The Family Art Project mix art and nature to explore texture. Also this week, walk with one of our gardeners to learn about the Aquatic and Monocot Gardens. Find more details below!

Sunset Meditation – Wave Hill

Relax and recharge during sunset at the Aquatic Garden! With focus on the elements of nature—earth, fire, water and air—celebrate the setting sun reflected in the water along with the big open sky. Sara Hart of iHart Lens leads a short dharma talk followed by a guided meditation including breath work and a few yoga poses. Rain date: Thursday, August 26. Nature Nights: Bats of the Bronx (On-site)

Nature Nights: Bats of the Bronx – Wave Hill

Join our all-star lineup of experts for a peek at the secret life of bats that live in and migrate through the Bronx. Begin with an indoor presentation on the diversity of urban bats and their importance to our ecosystem, then venture out onto the grounds to search for these nocturnal creatures at Wave Hill using an echo-locator. Bat Conservationist Danielle Gustafson; Bradley Klein of the New York City Bat Group; and Paul Keim, the “bat man of Brooklyn”; lead this special, after-hours program. Don’t forget your flashlight! Family Art Project: Library of Textures (On-site)

Family Art Project: Library of Textures – Wave Hill

With guest artist Tatiana Arocha, collect a library of textures! Using Wave Hill’s grounds as your main source, we’ll guide families in collecting plants and natural material, and then exploring their textures using a rubbing technique and monotype printing. If you arrive and capacity is full, program staff will provide a “come back” card so you will have first entry for the next session. Shine only. Check the website starting at 8AM morning of, for the status of the day’s program. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and to work with natural materials. Have your masks on when you arrive! And please be prepared to respect physical distancing throughout your stay. Location is the Shade Border Lawn, just up the hill from Wave Hill House. Garden Highlights Walk – Wave Hill

Join a knowledgeable Wave Hill Garden Guide on a tour of favorite garden areas and summer highlights. Severe weather cancels. Walks do not include the Conservatory at this time. This walk ends at 2:45PM. Garden Highlight Walks are most appropriate for adults or young adults. Not intended for groups; maximum 5 people allowed to register together. Registration required, onsite on the day of the walk, at the Perkins Visitor Center. Space is limited. Questions? Walks with the Gardeners: Aquatic and Monocot Gardens – Wave Hill

Guided by Wave Hill gardener Christopher Bivens, explore the design of the Aquatic and Monocot Gardens, where neatly trimmed hedges and symmetrical pergolas provide a framework for lush grasses, tropical plants and exotic water lilies.
