International Coastal Cleanup!

Join us for one of our biggest events of the year, International Coastal Cleanup, as we partner with Insectageddon at Starlight Park and Concrete Plant Park! This year we are dedicating our restoration efforts to our insects, whose survival is threatened by human activity. Come enjoy some family-friendly fun, join a cleanup team, and learn how you can make a difference to help save our insects!

Come out on September 25 at Concrete Plant Park in order to participate.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to our Ecology Coordinator at christian.murphy@bronxriver.org.

Seen on the River

Mugwort Appears along the River

Alternate text

While paddling along the River our Recreation Assistant Victoria Toro came across something quite particular, mugwort growing out of a soccer ball!

This is quite troubling because these are two entities, trash and invasive species plants, coming together. This dangerous duo have an undoubtable impact on the ecosystem. Since the mugwort is growing out of the soccer ball it is actually able to spread even more wildly because it is traveling so quickly throughout the river.

This bizarre sight took us off guard by how strange this is but it shows the importance of maintaining and cleaning the Bronx River. You can also help with this effort by participating in our Estuary Paddles where you clean up the Bronx River while enjoying a beautiful paddle. You can sign up for our next Estuary Paddle on Saturday September 18 here.
