Experience the rich colors of fall foliage at Wave Hill on one of our weekly guided walk of highlights in the gardens. The next is October 2. Bring your best camera so that you can relive your fall moments, share with others and practice your fall foliage photography skills!

If you needed proof that nature is an inspiration to artists, we invite you to meet exhibiting Sunroom Project Space artists Jake Brush and Katherine Miranda for an in-depth talk about their work, on Oct 2. On Oct 5, join a panel discussion about Global Ecological Issues on a Local Scale. This program is held in conjunction with Eco-Urgency: Now or Never (exhibition organized by Wave Hill in partnership with Lehman College Art Gallery), which showcase varied responses artists have to the unfolding ecological crisis. Then there’s the weekly Family Art Project. This week is all about saving seeds.

Lastly, we hope you’ll come back on Oct 7 for a performance by The Overlook Quartet. It will be free and fabulous!

Join New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellow Jake Brush and Curatorial Assistant Jesse Bandler Firestone for a conversation about Brush’s video piece and installation on view in the Sunroom. They will discuss themes within Brush’s work, including humor as institutional critique, aspects of performative wellness, building narratives and the realities of making work as an artist within the context of a garden. Public Garden Highlights Walk – Wave Hill

Join a knowledgeable Wave Hill Garden Guide on a tour of favorite garden areas and fall highlights. Severe weather cancels. This walk ends at 2:45PM. Garden Highlight Walks are most appropriate for adults or young adults. Not intended for groups; maximum five people allowed to register together. Registration required, onsite on the day of the walk at the Perkins Visitor Center.

This program is held in conjunction with Eco-Urgency: Now or Never, an exhibition organized by Wave Hill in partnership with Lehman College Art Gallery. In response to the unfolding ecological crises, artists in this exhibition create objects, videos, performances and community-organized projects to encourage public engagement, provoke conversation and actions and deepen awareness of these issues.

The Overlook Quartet Performs: “If The Stars Align” – Wave Hill

The Overlook is a quartet of accomplished string players dedicated to amplifying the music of Black composers, by looking to voices both celebrated and underperformed and seeking out living composers to perform and commission. Through this work, The Overlook upholds a commitment to a more representative canon. The quartet will perform “If the Stars Align,” a program dedicated to the music of living Black female composers Leila Adu, Shelley Washington and Eleanor Alberga Violinists Monica Davis and Ravenna Lipchik have held chairs in Broadway orchestras and toured internationally with renowned chamber ensembles; violist Angela Pickett and cellist Laura Metcalf are members of award-winning string quintet Sybarite5. The four friends and colleagues formed the quartet in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, a time when creative work had all but disappeared from the artistic landscape of New York. Exhibitions at Glyndor Gallery explore the dynamic relationship between nature, culture and site. Public gallery tours of the exhibitions are led by Gallery Greeters on Thursdays and Saturdays. Visitors can expect an in-depth look at artworks on view in Glyndor Gallery and in the Sunroom Project Space, showcasing the work of both emerging and established artists in a unique environment.
