The Westchester Square Civic Association hosted its 1st Annual Holiday Dinner on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

Despite the snowfall and cold weather, dozens of folks gathered for the festivities.

Founded by Bronx resident  Lou Rocco,  the Association provides various workshops and opportunities to assist in community development, spark dialogue and create change. To date he has hosted free CPR classes, safety classes and assorted volunteer events.

The Spring and Summer months involved maintenance of residential streets. Fire hydrants were painted, clothing bins removed, and mulch was applied to newly planted trees.

Rocco routinely runs contests to appeal to youth. They are geared to bring awareness of community needs, and have youth get involved in the resolutions.

Rocco is no novice, as his donation of personal time and resources for the betterment of the Bronx far exceeds the founding of this Association. He has been active in the Westchester Square community for several years, including being a member of Community Board 9 before the rezoning of districts.

The dinner included an acknowledgment to Bronx resident Connie DeLayo of the Westchester Square area for her dedication and investment to the community.

As new events are planned, The Bronx Chronicle will surely keep you informed.
